Helping your child
My seven year old son is fit and healthy. Cheeky and active. The only thing that makes him slightly different is that when he pees he uses a catheter.
He does it with an air of simplicity that makes you think it's always been that easy. But six months ago if you had told us how it would be today we would have looked at you in disbelief. When he was sobbing and crying in the bathroom as we pushed and pushed for him to try harder we didn't think he was going to get here. Worse than that we didn't know what we were going to do if he didn't.
Parents always want to make things better for their children. Not much feels worse than watching your child struggle with something they need to do to stay healthy.
This last year I couldn't count how many frustrating evenings we'd spent searching the internet for help. Nor the days spent trying to work out ways of making catheterisation seem less terrifying for him.
If sharing our hard earned tips saves someone the anxiety we had then we'll be happy - there are plenty other things you can find to worry about when your child's ill!
Our knowledge is around clean intermittent catheterisation (CIC), but common sense tells us that some of the tips here just might help if your child needs to learn to do other things to meet their health needs.
If you have tips you would like to share we would happily make room for them here if you drop an email to contact @ cocoonzen.com
